Wedding Gifts

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our school book and library project in Mindanao, Southern Philippines. The school we are working with is Tagmaray Elementary School in Bukidnon, Mindanao.

In total we raised approximately 80,200 peso or about GBP 1,146. We will be making this total up to 150,000 peso or about GBP 2,143 (at time of writing).

On 24 Sept 2009 we purchased 139,312 peso worth of books in Manila. This was after a good discount of 20% on many of the books. In the end we had about 4 carts full of books. We have 15 textbooks for each grade (1-6) of English Language, English Reading, Mathematics and Science and Health - so that is a total of 360 text books! We also bought loads of story books (including Harry Potter and Roald Dahl), loads of other factual and fun books, loads of dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlas and about 30 posters and world maps.

The remaining 10,700 peso went to shipping the books from Manila to Cagayan de Oro (5,409 peso), the cost of transporting the books from Cagayan de Oro to Bukidnon down some very bad roads (5,000 peso) and some plastic film for the books (2,000 peso). We also stamped all the books with the school's name.

On the 6th of November 2009 we finally delivered the books to the school. The school gave a presentation and were very grateful. The kids were great too and we enjoyed meeting everyone!

If you still want to contribute then you can give directly to either of us or email us (aubrey@tektites.co.uk or tere 'at' filfashion.com) for bank payment in UK or Philippines. You can also donate by paypal (Paypal email address is aubreywhymark@yahoo.co.uk).

Thanks you everyone for your generosity - the money went a long way!
